SSM Information Made Simple

SSM Business Registration, Status and Renewal

Clear guidance on Malaysian business registration, renewal, status, fees and official SSM services.

Status Checker

The checker does not show an expiry date or establish whether an expired registration remains eligible for renewal. Confirm those details through official SSM services. An unavailable result does not mean a business is unregistered. It does not authenticate documents, process renewals or replace an official SSM record. Lookup and privacy information.

The basics

What is SSM, and which business structures does it cover?

Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM) is the Companies Commission of Malaysia. It registers and administers businesses and companies. “SSM registration” commonly refers to a business registration, while SSM is the authority.

Sole proprietorship

One individual owns the business.

Partnership

Two or more partners own the business.

Company / Sdn. Bhd.

A separate legal entity from its shareholders.

LLP / PLT

A partnership structure with limited liability features.

Registration, tax and compliance requirements vary by structure. Confirm the suitable route with SSM or a qualified adviser.

Sample documents

What an SSM Registration Document Shows

The sample certificate shows a business name, registration number, registered address and validity date. A business profile can also show status, registration and expiry dates, ownership and business activity.

These official SSM samples are provided for reference. Details shown may be illustrative or historical; the website checker does not issue or verify either document.

Renewal and fees

SSM Business Renewal

Renewal extends the validity of an eligible sole proprietorship or partnership. Timing, renewal period and registered name determine the available route and fee.

What the expiry date means

  1. Before expiry

An eligible registration may be renewed before its current validity ends.

  2. Within 12 months after expiry

Renewal may still be available under current SSM rules. A compound may apply.

  3. More than 12 months after expiry

Normal renewal is no longer available. Registration of a new business may be required.

Before starting a renewal

Check the registration number, expiry date and registered business name. Any outstanding compound should also be confirmed through an official SSM service.

Who may apply
The owner, one partner or the person responsible, subject to SSM requirements.
Renewal period
Choose from one to five years for an eligible registration.
Where to renew
Complete the online transaction through the official SSM4U portal.

Official fee reference

The fee is charged for each renewal year and depends on whether the business uses a personal name or trade name.

These fees apply to registered businesses. Companies and LLPs follow different requirements. Third-party service charges are separate from SSM fees.

Certificate or Business Profile?

A business registration certificate records the registration. A business profile provides registered particulars about the business. Use the document requested by the receiving organisation; a website lookup does not replace an official document.

SSM Document Information

What Is Digital CTC?

A Digital Certified True Copy (DCTC) is a digitally certified document. SSM provides a DCTC reader and web checker to verify document authenticity. Our registration-status checker does not authenticate certificates.

Official DCTC Verification

Registration and Other Licences

SSM registration does not replace licences, permits or approvals required by a local authority or another relevant agency. Requirements depend on the business activity and location.

Late Renewal and Compounds

Late renewal can involve a compound in addition to renewal fees. Check any outstanding amount through official SSM services. Do not assume that registering a business again clears obligations connected with an earlier registration.
